Students will achieve the study requirements for sales certification plus receive substantial study materials and a complete in the field ‘start up kit’ for their career including presentation resources and Day Timer diary in a Harcourts briefcase.

This initiative follows  a recent  newspaper article criticising real estate courses currently run in NZ.

Last year, 8815 students enrolled in the real-estate sales courses nationwide.

More than 8000 of them attended polytechnics, attracting a government subsidy of about $800 each, totalling $6.4 million. Turnover in the real-estate industry was about 6000 people a year. The taxpayer was therefore funding 8000 students to train and another 6000 agents were dropping out.

Harcourts Academy Salespersons course will only be available to those who have already secured a place of employment and have passed a comprehensive screening process to ascertain their suitability for the role and potential to succeed.

Harcourts Academy, a Registered Training  Organisation throughout Australia, 2008 annual student survey revealed an 87% retention rate of their students in the industry.

Irene Green Head of the Academy said “The major driver behind our decision to develop the sales person’s course was the need to better equip salespeople to provide not only a higher level of professionalism to the public but to enable them to quickly establish a successful career. We Have been operating sales certification courses throughout Australia since 2004”

The Academy sales programme has taken 16 months to develop and Harcourts CEO Bryan Thomson believes “Harcourts Academy has risen the bar for NZ real estate training and Academy graduates will have a distinct advantage over others entering the industry.”

Harcourts Academy in association with REINZ ITO now provides Harcourts existing salespersons the opportunity to achieve their National Certificate in Real Estate.

82 Harcourts people are currently completing their National Certificate with the REINZ ITO with the support of classroom and live webinar study groups facilitated by Harcourts Academy.

Harcourts people have responded to the consistent message coming from the Academy that Harcourts people stand for the best trained, the most knowledgeable, the highest skilled in the industry.

Irene Green Head of Harcourts Academy said “The new generation real estate professional sees Real Estate not as a job in sales but as a career. And careers require qualifications.” “Unqualified unknowledgeable salespersons will no longer be tolerated by the public and Harcourts people have always been ready to stand out from the rest.”

Harcourts NZ CEO Bryan Thomson is expecting a steady flow of Harcourts consultants through the Academy facilitated programme.  “Our people are busy selling property. They need a course that doesn’t take them out of their business, provides hands on guidance and keeps them on track to complete it. Harcourts Academy provides exactly that.”

REINZ ITO Lesley Southwick is confident that National Certificate will become a compulsory requirement for all salespeople in NZ. The Academy’s drive for higher level education may prove to be a huge advantage.
